Bench Test

The Bench Test often involves some kind of test rig that will allow tests to be carried out on a product.  


Comparative Table

The Comparative Table usually lists sets of criteria side by side in a manner that will allow direct comparison between products to be made.


Survey

The survey is usually a set of questions that are put together in order to gain information.  The information gathered is then analysed and can be used in many ways.


User Trial

The User Trial is usually where a product has been given to someone in order to allow them to use it so that information can be gathered with regards to their opinion off  the product when in use.  



Shown  below:  is a typical practice survey where pupils are given a random topic in order to help them develop correct questioning techniques prior to constructing an assessable survey for a commercial or hand held product.

The pupil needs to think deeply about what they are asking and why.  What is the purpose of the question?  What are they trying to find out?  What are they going to do with the information that they gather?
With the commercial or hand held product many of the questions will be directly related to Design Factors and will look more like these:      Do you like the colour?    Are the control buttons easily seen?  Do you like the shape?  And so on.
