Wood Joints

The wood joints listed above are normally divided into 2 categories.  These are the Carcase joints and the Frame joints.

Some of the above listed wood joints can be seen here.  They are a mix of both practise pieces and joints incorporated into models.

Half Lap and Rebate Joints

Use:  For the corners of boxes.  Increases the surface area that glue can be applied to, when compared to the Butt Joint.  The result of this is that a stronger joint is produced.

Carcase Construction Wood Joints  (A carcase is a box structure)

Through Housing Joint

Use:  Often used for the construction of shelves or box partitions.  When used for shelves it has good load bearing capacity.  This wood joint can be seen at either side of the shelf as shown here.

Finger Joint

Use:  For the corners of boxes.  Increases the surface area that glue can be applied to, when compared to the Butt Joint and the Half Lap and Rebate joint.  The finished wood joint has a good aesthetic and can add to the attractiveness of the item produced.
